Shocking Discovery Part 2

Welcome. I was going to post part 2 yesterday but my grandson showed up and he’s pretty much kept me running so I apologize and here goes. My father and 2 of his buddies jump a train and they notice these 2 older gentlemen buying food and such for an older couple. That night the older couple were asleep on one side of a train gondola car while the older gentlemen and my father and friends were drinking on the other side. The older couple heard a noise and asked what was going on as they couldn’t see because it was really dark. One of the buddies screamed at them and threatened them so at the next stop they changed train cars and notified authorities as soon as they could as to what they heard. They investigate and fine one gentleman dead and the other one in really bad shape. He passed about 6 hours later at the hospital. My father and his buddies saw the gentlemen spending money on the train and decided to rob them. They tied them up and proceeded to beat them with either heavy boards or a 3 ft long brake shoe. Every time they got up they hit them again. They robbed them and got a whopping $15 total. Two innocent men died so these idiots could get $5 each. Then they went to El Paso, Texas, got a motel room showered and shaved then went to Juarez to party for the day. They went back to El Paso and tried to steal a car but got caught by the owner and he stopped them. Somehow they started to head out of town not sure if they found a vehicle or walked but the police caught up with them and the 2 younger guys were arrested. My father wasn’t spotted and he slipped into a cotton field and got away. The two young men confessed and actually showed remorse which in my opinion was too little too late. They told them about my father who they called “Tex”. They looked for him for 3 or 4 weeks before the FBI finally found him…in Tallahassee, Florida. They flew him back for trial. He was under a $20,000 bond which is around $195,000 in today’s money. I wish I was kidding about all this but sadly I’m not. I really am glad he had nothing to do with raising me and I feel so badly for the families of the men he killed. I saw one of the gentleman’s headstone and death record and all I could do was cry. I’m not sure how much my mother knew but this isn’t all I’ve found out about him. Well, my grandson is pitching a fit so this seems like an ok stopping point for now. I’ll try to post the next part of the story tomorrow. Until next time – Maeve
